Amenity and landscape areas are arguably the most difficult when selecting a suitable turf type. A number of factors have to be considered such as:

• The location.
• The existing soil type.
• The amount of wear and tear expected.
• Other plantings, such as trees and shrubs.
• Existing water supply and potential irrigation system.
• What, if any, drainage system exists.
• The general topography.
• The size of budget.
• The proposed management and maintenance of the area.

When account is taken of all these factors it will be seen that there is a case for choosing virtually any one of the Inturf turf types. For example:

• If the location is coastal, choose fescue dominant Rhizomatous Tall Fescue (or Really Tough Turf as it has been described).
• If the existing soil type is sandy loam, choose an appropriate type from Inturf’s standard turf range.
• If the amount of wear and tear expected is heavy foot traffic, use INTURF Lawn or INTURF Classic or INTURF Fibre Turf.
• If other plantings exist such as trees and shrubs, use a shade tolerant turf from Inturf’s standard range of INTURF Lawn and INTURF Classic types.
• If the area has no irrigation facility, install the most drought resistant turf such as a mature turfgrass. However, when using a natural product it is vital that adequate irrigation facilities are available.
• Freshly transplanted turf needs copious amounts of precipitation.
• If the site is poorly drained, choose a turf from Inturf’s standard turf range. However, without the adequate drainage facility our turfgrass products cannot be guaranteed to last.
• If the general topography is severely undulating, for example with lots of banks, then these could dry out and die back possibly even when a water supply is handy. There is a case here for a turf which has a quality of quick recovery when the area eventually does get watered.
• If the budget for turfing the area is limited, INTURF Lawn would be an appropriate choice.

To sustain the good appearance of the area, it will be important to ensure that routine maintenance is undertaken.
