Following the introduction of new state-of-the-art automated turf harvesting equipment we’ve standardised the dimensions of our standard range of turf - and introduced new product features to make handling and laying even easier for contractors.
Big Rolls (mechanically handled large rolls of turf - first developed by Inturf in the mid 90s) will be harvested to the same 24" width as conventional turf.
Turf wrap netting will be available for these big rolls and these can also be perforated enabling smaller sections to be peeled off for easy laying.
For the more specialised turfing projects such as Thick Cut Big Roll and Lay ‘n’ Play Turf Tiles (again systems developed by Inturf) the 29" and 48" wide turf remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.
However, as these dimensions have proved very successful, it is doubtful that these will be brought in line with the standard range of turf harvesting.
The key advantages of the new Inturf system are:
Inturf have launched new lawn centres at York and Grantham to supply landscape professionals as well as sell direct to end-user gardeners.
“Our business has enjoyed a considerable amount of success in recent years,” says Inturf joint managing director Alex Edwards. “We are building on our reputation and expertise in sports turf and making that - and the same quality turf - available to gardeners and landscape professionals.
The Lawn Centres are an important part of that process. Because we have production fields right on the doorstep in both cases there are always huge supplies of freshly cut turf on hand and managers with the right mixture of experience and enthusiasm to make the difference."
Inturf’s new Lawn Centres: green, fast, & right where you want them
Inturf are currently seeking to expand and improve their nationwide network of turf and topsoil stockists. To help the process we’ve launched the Business Builder Partnership™ to help stockists get everything they can out of their association with us.

Most important of all, Inturf are committed to ensuring that their customers come first.
This strong emphasis on quality of product and service will make certain that Inturf stockists will experience fewer complaints and be able to retain and build their business.
We are now specified by many leading sports venues, landscape contractors and landscape designers including Celtic Manor, Carnoustie and The Belfry in the world of Golf, Everton and Bolton Wanderers Football Clubs, and award winning landscape contractors like Waterers Landscapes.
If you think your business could benefit from our Business Builder Partnership please contact Andy Church, Director of Sales.
Stephen Edwards, Joint Managing Director of Inturf was elected chair of the Turfgrass Growers Association at its last Annual Meeting.
The Turfgrass Growers Association (TGA) is the only professional organisation in the UK and Ireland dedicated to the advancement of quality turf production.
“Our industry is at an important stage in its development and I feel it is a tremendous honour to be taking the chair at this time,” says Stephen, whose father, Derek Edwards, was the founding chairman of the Association in 1995. He also paid warm tribute to Chris Carr his predecessor.
“During my time in the chair I would like to see the Association being even more controlled and more focused in its approach with a strong, committed and accountable council ready to get involved and prepared to be judged by results. In particular I want to see more useful market and technical research to help members grow their businesses.”
Inturf are part of a four-strong consortium of growers to have ready stocks of a new breed of turf which has been specially developed by Barenbrug Research to cope with the rigours of climate change.
Rhizomatous Tall Fescue (or Really Tough Turf as it has been described) performs well in drought, doesn’t mind being waterlogged in flooding, is shade tolerant and salt tolerant and is incredibly hard wearing.
“It is the perfect tall fescue for amenity and domestic garden settings,” says Alex Edwards, joint managing director of Inturf. “We know from our conversations with landscape specifiers and garden designers that they are actively thinking about the effects of climate change as they plan landscapes. RTF’s characteristics are such that it will cope well with the extremes of drought and flood which seem to beset us now. Its salt tolerance also makes it ideal for roadside verges as well as coastal sites and its toughness means it can cope with the heaviest pounding.”
Rhizomatous Tall Fescue turf has been developed in co-operation with Barenbrug, one of Europe’s foremost breeders. The tall fescue’s unique properties are attributable to its rhizomes and its remarkably deep root system. “RTF’s root system is bushier, denser, stronger and deeper than anything we’ve seen before,” says Alex Edwards. “It’s a major breakthrough for people who use grass in amenity landscapes and for designers working with housing developers. Anyone wishing to come and see the new variety should get in touch with me.”
